Five quiet steps when a crisis begins

1. Breathe and name it

Say out loud: "This is a crisis. I know what to do." Naming it helps your nervous system steady.

2. Warm, hydrate, rest

Warm (not hot) water bottle or heating pad. Sip warm fluids. Loose clothing. Lie down if you can.

3. Follow your pain plan

Take your prescribed pain relief on schedule — don't wait until it is unbearable. Log each dose with the time.

4. Tell someone

Text a warrior, a partner, a parent, a friend. A witness changes the room.

5. Escalate early

If pain keeps climbing, you can't keep fluids down, you have a fever, or something feels different — go to hospital. Bring your care summary.

A gentle reminder: you are allowed to ask for help twice. You are allowed to bring someone with you. You are allowed to take up space in a hospital. Your pain is real.
